I am very happy with my new Saffron tonedrum. The sound very fine, of course not as voluminous as my big Pulsar tonguedrum from Yudinworkshop. On the other hand I would describe it as less „fragile“, meaning I do not have to be too attentive about how hard I hit the tongues.
I found among the tonedrums on this site, Saffron has the most „organic“ scale, the notes perfectly compiled. On Yudinworkshop’s Pulsar-Site/Create-Tool its‘ less spicy name is „SalaDin“. If like me you want to create arabic-oriental sounding music, this is the one to choose.
I interpret the SalaDin-scale a little different from the concept given here. It is basically hexatonic (a 6-tone-scale): C Db E F G Bb. I find 2 ways to analyse the principle of how it is constructed: it could be called an altered Phrygian scale (called „Hijaz“ or „Spanish Phrygian) with the 6th step (here note A) omitted. Or we could regard it as composed of 2 triads: the notes of a C-major-chord (C,E,G) entirely on the left side of the drum (plus the Ding Bass-Keynote C in the middle), and the notes of a Bb-minor-chord (Bb, Db, F) entirely on the right side. Anyhow i feel this scale is more „intuitive“, meditative, improvisational than my Pulsar based on a 7-note scale, but more melodic than a pentatonic scale.
I had a problem with the built-in pickup, the service contacted i found very accomodating and helpful, so I could instantly solve the problem without taking the trouble of sending back the instrument.
    In conclusion a high recommendation!
