What a blissful couple of days I’ve had since I received my Serenity Tone Drum! It’s super compact and light. The craftsmanship is superb- I love the coating and the clean consistent look. It sounds so lovely! Each note has depth and multiple harmonics, tuned to perfection. Additionally, the accessories are really excellent. The instrument fits snugly in the bag, which is compact and highly functional with both backpack straps and a handle- plus a zipper pocket! The rope braid is gorgeous, but I recommend removing it and putting it in the zipper pocket when you use the bag, because the fit is pretty precise. The mallets are light and bouncy, and they produce a clean tone with soft attack and lots of sustain.
Now on to the pickup! I’m not sure how they crafted this stylish pickup, but it looks and works great. It produces a loud and clear tone that I haven’t been able to achieve yet with any other instrument in this scene. I’ve tried 4 different magnetic pickups on tongue drums and handpans, but they each seem to just barely get the job done. This pickup sounds fantastic, and I’m able to push the volume up so much louder than I have in the past- with no hum or buzz. I’ve been looping it all day with the RC505 and it goes as loud as I need it! I still haven’t found it’s limit because I’m getting more than enough for my needs. It sounds especially nice with a bit of EQ-ing. Overall my first impressions are extremely positive and I’m excited to continue exploring this instrument and adding it to my gigs.
